WILLIAM JAMES CARLISLE, JR. Obituary
Plum, PA - William James Carlisle, Jr., age 90, of Plum, PA, sadly passed away on March 4, 2026, at the Southwestern Veterans Center. Born on September 23, 1935, to William and Jessie Carlisle Sr. in Pittsburgh, PA. William "Billy" was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, son Daniel Carlisle, and younger brothers Charles and John "Jack" Carlisle. Billy grew up in Pittsburgh in the Garfield neighborhood. Billy proudly served in the US Army during the Korean War as a Cannoneer; (MOS 13B) in Battery C, 1st Battalion, 7th Field Artillery Regiment. After returning home, he married his wife, Arlene, whose family happened to live across the street from his. He later moved to Penn Hills to raise his family. He then worked at Penn Hills municipality as a treatment plant operator for 24 years, where he retired from. Billy was an active and prideful member of both the Masons and the Shriners. He enjoyed holding the American flag while marching in parades. He loved going to the beach, on cruises, and on many other vacations, especially his Ireland trip. He was a longstanding season ticket holder for the Steelers and a lifelong Pirates fan. Mr. Carlisle's family would like to thank the staff of Southwestern Veterans Center and Gentiva Hospice for the care they provided during his stay. He was a true patriot, and we will miss him dearly. He is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 70 years, Arlene Carlisle. His devoted daughter who took attentive care of him during his final years, Cathlene (Michael) Blankenbicker, and her three children. Along with his other two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A visitation will be held on Monday March 9th from 9 a.m. to 12 noon at SOXMAN FUNERAL HOMES, LTD., 7450 Saltsburg Road Pittsburgh, PA 15235 where a funeral service will follow at 12 noon. Interment to follow at Plum Creek Cemetery with military honors 670 Center New Texas Road Pittsburgh, PA 15239. Donations may be made to VFW Post 92 1601 Wildlife Lodge Road New Kensington, PA 15068 and/or Shriners 1877 Shriners Way Cheswick, PA 15024.
